Rural sheriffs' rallies picking up steam

About 200 people attended the most recent rural sheriff's rally in Alturas last week, and more events are being planned.

Liz Bowen of Pie N Politics reports in her column:
Seven counties were represented at the Support Rural America.com Sheriffs’ Event held in Alturas on April 21. Been awhile since I had been to Alturas and instead of being greeted by an April snowstorm, it was hot! Over 200 people showed up to support these Sheriffs who spoke of the problems that dying local economies are creating for social structure, health and safety. Tehama County Sheriff Dave Hencratt wasn’t able to attend, but his Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston showed up and discussed Agenda 21. Johnston said he hadn’t known much about it until he started checking it out on the Internet and was shocked that it certainly targets rural areas with the goal of removing people. Sure fits the over-regulations by many government agencies that are making rural life difficult. He even quoted from the recent statement made by the National Republican Party, which exposes the mission and goals of Agenda 21.

Modoc Sheriff Mike Poindexter hosted the event leading the panel’s discussion. His county is over 80 percent federally managed lands. In truth, they are the “public’s land,” and these sheriffs believe that these lands must be locally controlled for all the public’s use. Local control means that local Forest Rangers and Forest Supervisors must have authority to work with the local citizens. Since Bill Clinton was U.S. President, this local authority has been usurped by Washington D.C.

Oh, a side note, Sheriff Poindexter and I were interviewed on John Clark’s “America Betrayed” radio last week. So we were able to “plug” the Modoc Event on over 140 AM radio stations.

Other sheriffs who attended were: Siskiyou Sheriff Jon Lopey, Del Norte Sheriff Dean Wilson, Plumas Greg Hagwood, Trinity Bruce Haney and Oregon Grant Co. Sheriff Glenn E. Palmer.

Special guest Wyoming attorney Karen Budd-Falen was a hit as she spoke on property rights.
Bowen added she will post videos from the Alturas rally on PNP in the coming week.

As I have reported before (here and here), the sheriffs plan to hold similar rallies May 19 in Weaverville and June 23 in Red Bluff. In addition, Del Norte County Sheriff Dean Wilson set a date for July 14 in Crescent City, Bowen reports. The movement's website is here.
